1. A parent-controlled design
FamilyFriendFinder is designed to be operated by parents, legal guardians and lawfully authorized adults. The architecture of the service reflects that:
- Children do not independently create accounts.
- Children do not sign in.
- Children do not independently provide information to the platform.
- Children do not search for other children.
- Children do not send or receive messages, and cannot contact another child here.
- Parents create, edit, pause and delete child profiles.
- All communication takes place between adult accounts.
These are enforced in the application and in the database permissions, not only in policy wording.
2. Our approach to children's privacy law
The U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) applies to operators of online services directed to children under 13, and to operators with actual knowledge that they are collecting personal information from children under 13, and requires verifiable parental consent in covered circumstances. Because FamilyFriendFinder holds information about children aged 2 to 20, we have built the service conservatively: the adult account holder is the person who provides the information, gives consent for its use, and can withdraw it.
We do not claim universal compliance with every U.S. federal or state children's privacy law. We will continue to update our practices as applicable children's privacy laws evolve, and we will publish a new version of this notice when we do.
3. What a child profile contains
A parent chooses what to enter. Only a nickname or first name, an age and general location are needed for matching. Everything below is optional:
- Gender, interests, activities, languages, personality and preferences
- Availability and group-size preferences
- A parent-written description
- An optional photograph
- An optional faith or religion preference
We do not collect, and do not ask for, a child's:
- Full legal name
- Date of birth shown to others - a birth date is stored only to display an age
- Social Security Number or Social Insurance Number
- Passport, driver's licence or other government identification number
- Exact home address or school address
- Medical information
4. What other members can see
Other members see a nickname, an age, the interests and preferences you chose to publish, and an approximate distance such as “about 3 miles away”. Exact coordinates, addresses and street names are never displayed.
5. No sale, no advertising, no AI training
- We do not sell child personal information.
- We do not carry out targeted advertising to children.
- We do not act as a data broker for child information.
- We do not license or sell child profile data to third parties.
- We do not use child photos for advertising, facial recognition or AI training.
6. Parent and guardian rights
As the account holder you can, at any time:
- Review the information held about your child
- Correct it
- Remove a photograph
- Pause a child profile so it disappears from search
- Delete a child profile
- Exclude a child from matching
- Restrict how optional information such as faith is used
- Withdraw your authorization for us to hold child information, by deleting the profile
Most of these are available directly in your account. For anything else, use the Privacy Request Center.
7. Retention
Child profile information is kept while the profile exists. When you delete a child profile or your account, the profile and its information are removed, apart from limited records we are required to keep for legal, security, fraud-prevention, accounting or dispute purposes. We do not keep child information indefinitely simply because storage is inexpensive.
